Looking for a Readlang alternative?
Readlang suits readers who like clicking words and practising them with flashcards. Solaread is worth trying if frequent lookups interrupt your reading: it predicts unfamiliar words and places a short explanation beside them in the text.
When to stay with Readlang
Keep Readlang if choosing every word yourself and practising its flashcards already works for you. Check its language choices against your reading material. A different reading workflow matters more than a feature count.
In Solaread's desktop web reader, automatic word marking supports English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Russian, Japanese and Chinese. Other source languages can still use manual word lookup and selected-text translation. The Mac app does not yet automatically mark Spanish, German, Portuguese or Russian.
Try one book before moving your library
Start with an EPUB or TXT file. The general vocabulary check uses 20 words and takes about two minutes. Read a few pages and adjust the amount of help. Keep your original files and any exported Readlang word lists; do not assume flashcards, notes or reading progress will transfer automatically.
Questions
Can explanations be in my own language?
Choose the explanation language in Settings. The nine direct choices are shortcuts, not a restriction; other languages are searchable.
Is there a Windows installer?
Use the web reader on Windows. A Mac download is available separately; the download page does not offer a Windows installer.

From reading to listening
This page covers Solaread’s reading feature. The web app also lets you import your audio and video, find podcasts, follow transcripts and look up unfamiliar words. Save vocabulary and review it in its original sentences. Recommendations and difficulty labels help you choose books, articles and videos.
An AI language teacher for discussing what you have read, heard or watched is coming soon and is not available yet. Use the web app for the latest listening features; the Mac download can differ.
