Terms of Use
Solaread is operated by Suwen Works Inc., Ontario, Canada. Effective immediately. Last updated: August 17, 2026.
These Terms govern your use of Solaread ("the Service"), provided by Suwen Works Inc. ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Solaread is a local-first English reading application offering EPUB/PDF reading, vocabulary prediction, and interlinear translation. Anyone may create an account. During the Beta, an Activation Code is required before paid capabilities such as AI translation and PDF parsing become available. New structured books may remain visible but locked until their opening translation is prepared. A PDF imported before activation is retained only on that device and is not parsed until activation.
2. Accounts
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your sign-in and for activity under your account. You must provide a valid email address and be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction.
3. Your content
You retain all rights to the books you import and the notes you create. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to use and upload any content. When you enable cloud sync, you grant us a limited licence to store and transmit that content solely to provide the Service to you (for example, storing your files so they appear on your other devices). We do not claim ownership of your content and do not use it for advertising.
4. Vocabulary feedback and the shared prediction model
After you accept the current Terms, Privacy Policy, and public-feedback policy, the explicit vocabulary feedback you create in Solaread may be used to improve Solaread's shared vocabulary-prediction model. Eligible feedback is limited to a normalized word, source and target languages, an optional standard sense identifier, and whether you marked the word known, unknown, or retracted. This contribution is on by default after acceptance, and you can stop future contribution in Settings → Account.
This permission does not include your books or PDFs, sentences or surrounding context, notes, highlights, bookmarks, assessment answers, AI prompts or results, provider responses, identity information, or implicit behavior such as reading time. It does not allow third-party translation or PDF providers to train their models on your feedback. A shared model is available to Solaread users; it does not make your feedback or identity public.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service, including: attempting to bypass usage limits or security; uploading unlawful content or content you do not have the right to use; interfering with the Service's operation; or using automated means to abuse the AI translation or parsing capabilities.
6. Paid subscriptions
Paid plans are billed monthly through Paddle, which acts as the Merchant of Record and reseller for purchases. The price and included usage are shown at the point of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically each month until cancelled. You can manage or cancel your subscription through the customer portal linked in Settings → Billing. If you cancel, paid access continues until the end of the current paid billing period. Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy.
7. Availability and changes
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service. We aim to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. Local reading of already-imported books is designed to keep working offline.
8. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. AI-generated translations and glosses may contain errors and are provided as reading aids, not authoritative translations.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for loss of data arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
10. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time in Settings. Deleting an account immediately cancels a linked subscription to prevent future renewal, but does not automatically refund a previous charge. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts located in Ontario, Canada have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights in your place of residence.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms; the "Last updated" date reflects the latest version. If a change materially affects public-model contribution or another data purpose, we will ask you to accept the new version before new feedback is used under that purpose.
