A personalized prediction model. After a vocabulary test of about 30 seconds, Solaread has an estimate of your general level and, if you choose, your level in professional fields such as law, medicine or computer science.

Every book is then scanned against that estimate. The words you probably do not know get a gloss; the rest do not. As you read and react, by saving words or marking them known, the model adjusts. As your vocabulary grows, it translates less.

One word at a time with its meaning, and two answers: Don't know or Know it. The general block is 20 words; each professional field you add is 8 more. Most people finish in well under a minute. You can refine your level any time from Settings.

They come from different places. Inline glosses are the model's predictions: a short translation in parentheses right after a word it thinks you do not know. Interlinear glosses sit underneath the line and belong to the words you saved yourself, so they stay visible whenever you reread the passage. Both are inserted with a smooth animation that does not reflow the paragraph you are reading.

Double-click the word, or select even one letter of it, and the popover appears with the translation. From there you can add it to your word list, which inserts an interlinear gloss on the spot. That choice is also feedback: the model learns from it, and gets better at predicting what you need.

Into your word list, and into My Notes, where every saved word and excerpt stays bound to its exact position in the book. Open an entry and Solaread returns you to the sentence it came from, with the gloss still in place.

Scholar Plus is USD 14.99 per month plus any applicable tax shown at checkout. Checkout and billing are handled by Paddle inside the app. The subscription renews monthly until you cancel.

Solaread is a reader for books, papers and articles written in a language you are still learning. You import what you want to read, and Solaread translates only the words it predicts you do not know, right inside the line. Everything else is left as the author wrote it.

EPUB, TXT and PDF. PDF papers are parsed into readable text where possible; when a page cannot be reconstructed faithfully, Solaread shows it in a page-faithful fallback view instead of guessing.

With the Chrome extension (in beta testing), web articles and YouTube transcripts can be sent to your bookshelf as text.

Today Solaread is built for reading English with annotations in Simplified Chinese, Japanese or Korean. Interface languages beyond English, and more annotation languages, are on the roadmap and will appear in the changelog when they ship.

You can open Solaread and read local books without one. An account is needed for the vocabulary test that personalizes prediction, for cloud sync between devices, and for the paid features. Signing in uses Google or a one-time email code; there is no password to remember.

Books you import stay on your device unless you turn on cloud sync, which stores your library, progress and notes under your account so other devices can pick them up. We do not sell personal information and we do not use your reading content for advertising. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what is collected and why.

The extension is currently in testing with the Solaread beta group and is coming to the Chrome Web Store. It sends web articles and YouTube transcripts to your bookshelf as text; the reader then treats them like any other book. The changelog will announce the public release.
